MRCOG and Part 2

The MRCOG exam is considered as the gold standard qualification in O&G across the world. The exam is aimed at medical professionals looking for specialisation and career progression in obstetrics and gynaecology.
MRCOG is a summative exam and consists of 3 parts – Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. The MRCOG Part 2 is a written exam which tests your theoretical knowledge as well as analytical and critical thinking. Both the papers in Part 2 exam consist of SBAs and EMQs designed to test how you interpret information and apply your skills to arrive at the best answer out of all the right ones.

Exam Pattern

Of MRCOG Part 2

MRCOG Part 2 is a written examination consisting of 2 papers consisting of 2 question formats – Single Best Answers (SBAs) and Extended Matching Questions (EMQ).

  • Paper 1 consists of 50 SBAs, 50 EMQs
  • Paper 2 consists of 50 SBAs, 50 EMQs
  • SBAs account for 40% of the total marks
  • EMQs account for 60% of the total marks

Candidates must apply for the Part 2 exam online within the booking window.

The entrance ticket is emailed 4 weeks before the exam.

Candidates who wish to enter the UK Specialist Register – Not more than 6 attempts

RCOG requires candidates to attempt Part 3 within 7 years of clearing Part 2, failing which you will have to clear Part 2 again.

AoT approval is no longer needed before attempting Part 2. AoT can be applied any time after clearing Part 1, but must be applied and approved before appearing for Part 3 clinical assessment.
