Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (FCPS) is a postgraduate qualification awarded by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan upon completing specialized training in chosen area of specialization and passing the examination in that specific specialty.
FCPS is regarded as the highest degree achieved by the doctors in any specialty in Pakistan. FCPS OBG has been divided into three parts

  • FCPS OBG part 1
  • FCPS OBG Part 2 Written
  • FCPS OBG Part 2 VIVA

All you need to know about FCPS OBG Part 1

FCPS OBG Part 1 is a computer-based exam/test (CBT) which consist of MCQ’s (Multiple Choice questions). For the FCPS OBG part 1 exam there will be two papers

  • Paper 1 – 100 MCQ
    Duration of the exam – 150 Minutes (2 Hr 30 Minutes)
    Break – Approx. 1 Hour
  • SBA Paper 2 – 100 SBA
    Duration of the exam – 150 Minutes (2 Hr 30 Minutes)

Eligibility Criteria

  • MBBS/BDS (for Dentistry) or equivalent qualification registered with PMDC.
  • One Year House Job in an institution recommended by the CPSP/PMDC which should have been completed at least two months before the date of the examination.
  • Alternatively, House job can be compensated by an equal period of residency in an institution recognized by CPSP

Exam Venue: Online Exams are conducted in Pakistan in nominated exam centers only. Primary locations are Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan and Hyderabad
Overseas Locations: Kathmandu and Riyadh
Exam Frequency – Four times in a year
Maximum Attempts – 03

Application Process

Original/Attested Photocopies of following documents to be attached along with the application. Application can be made online as well

  • MBBS /BDS Degree Or Provisional Certificate of Medical College.
  • Valid Pakistan Medical & Dental Council Registration Certificate. In case of foreign candidates, valid registration certificate of their own country’s medical council, equated by PMDC. If the PMDC certificate is expired then along with this expired PMDC provide fee receipt for renewal of PMDC.
  • Certificate of One Year House Job from institutions recognized by PMDC, duly countersigned by the head of the institution. House Job must have been completed one month before the date of examination.
  • Original/Attested photocopy of Computerized National Identity Card.

Who can Attest?

A person who is authorized to attest must be one of the followings:

  • Fellow of the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan with his Fellowship Number
  • Principal/Professor of PMDC approved Medical College / Postgraduate Medical Institute
  • Medical Superintendent / Head of the Medical Institutions


Eligible candidates can apply for the FCPS OBG Part 1 online. The application period is only open for a short period of time.. The applicants fill in the application form and submit together with it the relevant documents certifying their eligibility.

All the information regarding the VISA shall be enquired to the relevant consulate. CPSP shall not be responsible for application or rejection of any VISA.

As a general rule the validity of a pass in FCPS Part – I for candidates who have passed/will pass FCPS Part – I in 2000 and later is three years from the date of passing this examination plus the duration of fellowship training program that is:
For 3 – year program the validity is 6 years
For 4 – year program the validity is 7 years
For 5 – year program the validity is 8 years
It is advised to all FCPS-II trainees that they start their training within 3 years of passing FCPS-I otherwise the FCPS-I status will become null and void. The training should be started under an approved supervisor in an approved institution by the CPSP and the candidate should apply for RTMC registration within one month of starting training, otherwise the date of commencement of training will be from the date on which the application is received by the RTMC.
Extension the validity of FCPS-I up to March 2010 examination allow to all candidates who passed this examination in 1998 and later and its Validity had expired/will expire before March 2010. Other candidates who were declared null & void previously but have appeal to the validity committee and have been allowed extension of validity complete the remaining requirement up to the March 2010 Examination.

To find whether your Institute is approved by CPSP or not, check CPSP website www.cpsp.edu.pk where a list of approved Institutes by CPSP is available for trainees guidance, which is updated regularly.

CPSP shall not refund or carry over the fees to next examination after the closing date of withdrawal of applications. 75% of the fees may be returned under following circumstances,

  • Application for withdrawal from the examination, if received on or before the specified date.
  • Rejection of application by CPSP.

In Withdrawal application it is vital to write you name, account details clearly for refunds.
